Safety Rules

 

General Machine Safety

If you are not thoroughly familiar with the operation of machine, obtain advice from instructor.

Do Not operate while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.

Always wear eye protection.

Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry, watches. Roll up sleeves and tie back hair.

All Guards must be in place.

NO TALKING WHILE ON MACHINES OR TOOLS. DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE WHO IS WORKING

DO NOT STAND NEAR, NEXT, BEHIND A PERSON WHO IS WORKING ON MACHINES/TOOLS

Band Saw

Adjust the Blade Guard to about 1/8th inch above the material being cut.

Never turn saw on until table is clear of all objects. (tools, scraps of material, etc)

Stop machine before removing scrap from table.

Always keep fingers away from blade and out of Blade “line of fire”.

Hold work piece firmly against the table.

Do Not attempt to saw stock that does not have a flat surface, unless a suitable support is used.

Hold material firmly and feed into blade at a moderate speed. (do not go fast).

Turn Off machine if the material is to be backed out of a uncompleted or jammed cut.

Make “release” / “relief” cuts before cutting long curves, angles or straight cuts.

Shut Off power and clean machine before leaving the work area.

 

Drill Press

Never turn drill press on until table is clear of all objects. (tools, scraps of material, etc)

Clamp work to table if it is too small to hold.

Hold material securely with vice or clamps.

Clamp work when using hole saw or cutting tools larges than ½ inch dia.

MAKE SURE Chuck Key is removed from the chuck before starting drill press.

Make all adjustment with power off.

MAKE SURE drill bit or cutting tool is securely locked in chuck.

Shut Off power and if appropriate, remove drill bit or cutting tool, and clean table before leaving the machine.

 

Scroll Saw

Make all adjustment with power off.

Make sure blade is properly tensioned before operating saw.

Never turn saw on until table is clear of all objects. (tools, scraps of material, etc)

Do Not cut material that is too small to be safely supported or held.

Avoid awkward hand positions where sudden slips could cause a hand to move into blade.

Do Not attempt to saw stock that does not have a flat surface, unless a suitable support is used.

Make “release”/ “relief” cuts before cutting long curves, angles or straight cuts.

Hold material firmly and feed into blade at a moderate speed. (do not go fast).

Do Not feed the material too fast while cutting. Only feed the material fast enough so that the blade will cut. (slow and steady).

Turn Off machine if the material is to be backed out of a uncompleted or jammed cut.

Stop machine before removing scrap from table.

Shut Off power and clean machine before leaving the work area.

 

Knives

Never cut with dull or broken blade.

Never have hand in line of cutting stroke. Cut away / to the side of body & hands.

Make sure work area is clean from materials and tools before cutting.

Avoid walking around room with exposed blade. No Talking to other while cutting.

Clean area before leaving.
